Gnosis Pay Review 2026: Self-Custodial Visa with Up to 5% Cashback

Our verdict: Gnosis Pay is the first crypto Visa where your funds genuinely stay in your own Safe smart account until the moment you tap. 30 EUR one-time card fee, 0% on transactions, 0% FX, 0% off-ramp. Up to 5% cashback paid in GNO based on token holdings. Free EUR IBAN via Monerium with SEPA Instant. Live in EEA, UK, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia (more coming). The strongest non-custodial proposition on the market — but EU/UK only, and cashback is GNO-price-dependent.
Gnosis Pay is the only crypto card on the market where your money stays in a smart contract wallet you control until the millisecond you tap to pay. Every other "self-custodial" card requires you to pre-fund a hosted account or hand custody to a custodian. With Gnosis Pay, your EURe (a regulated euro stablecoin) sits in your own Safe smart account on Gnosis Chain. Each card transaction triggers a fresh on-chain transfer from your Safe to the card issuer Monavate, which then settles with Visa. There is no balance sitting on the card.
That design has a real cost — the card is currently not available in the US and cashback is variable (paid in GNO, based on GNO holdings, so the rate depends on the token price). But for European, UK, Brazilian, Argentinian, Mexican, and Colombian users who want to spend stablecoins without ever giving up custody, this is the cleanest design we've reviewed.

Key Features

- Self-custodial Safe smart account. Your EURe (and other supported tokens) sit in a Gnosis Safe you own. Monavate never holds your funds — only the per-transaction transfer at the moment of payment.
- Zero transaction fees. No card transaction fee. No foreign exchange fee. No off-ramping fee on EURe payments. Pay what you see on the merchant terminal.
- Up to 5% cashback in GNO. 1-4% based on GNO holdings (1% per tier: 0.1, 1, 10, 100 GNO). +1% for OG NFT holders. Paid weekly to your Safe. Funded by GnosisDAO.
- EUR IBAN via Monerium. Personal Estonia-issued IBAN attached to your Safe. SEPA Instant supported. Receive salaries, send fiat, fund the card via standard bank transfer — free of charge.
- Apple Pay support. Add Gnosis Pay to Apple Pay wallet for tap-to-pay anywhere contactless is accepted.
- ENS name customization. Your physical card can be printed with your ENS name (yourname.eth). Web3 identity made tangible.
- 3D Secure (Visa Secure). Standard online payment verification protects against fraud on web purchases.
- FCA-regulated issuer. Monavate Limited is FCA-authorised as an Electronic Money Institution (FRN: 901097), licensed by Visa Europe Limited. Card carries the same consumer protections as any UK-issued Visa debit.
- On-chain Web3 access. Your Safe can interact with DeFi protocols, mint NFTs, sign messages — the card is a payment layer on top of a fully-functional smart wallet.
Pricing & Cashback Tiers

| GNO Held | Base Cashback | With OG NFT | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| None | 0% | +1% | No cashback without GNO |
| 0.1-1 GNO | 1% | 2% | Entry tier |
| 1-10 GNO | 2% | 3% | Typical user |
| 10-100 GNO | 3% | 4% | Active user |
| 100+ GNO | 4% | 5% | Max tier |
Fees beyond the card: 30 EUR one-time card issuance. 4.99 EUR replacement card. SEPA inbound transfers free. Card transactions 0% fee, 0% FX, 0% off-ramp (when paying with EURe). The cashback design is the catch — you need to hold GNO to earn it, so you're taking GNO-price exposure as the cost of rewards. As of May 2026, 1 GNO is roughly $130-$180 depending on market — so the 100+ GNO max tier requires holding ~$13,000-$18,000 in GNO. The 1-10 GNO middle tier is the most accessible.
How the Self-Custody Architecture Works
Most "crypto cards" require you to pre-load a hosted account — Crypto.com, Coinbase, Wirex all custody your balance. Gnosis Pay's architecture is different. Here's the actual flow:
- You complete KYC and order the card.
- Gnosis Pay deploys a personal Safe smart account on Gnosis Chain — you control the keys.
- You fund the Safe via SEPA Instant (Monerium converts the EUR to EURe, a regulated euro stablecoin) or by direct EURe transfer.
- The Safe has a custom payment module that allows Monavate (the card issuer) to pull EURe from the Safe only when you tap the card.
- Each tap triggers a know-your-transaction (KYT) on-chain check, then a transfer from your Safe to Monavate, which off-ramps to fiat and settles with Visa.
The practical implication: your balance is on-chain, visible on a block explorer, in a wallet you control. You can interact with DeFi from the same Safe. If Gnosis Pay shut down tomorrow, your funds remain in your Safe. The only thing that stops working is the card itself (the off-ramp infrastructure).

Gnosis Pay vs Other Self-Custodial Cards

| Card | Custody | Network | Cashback | US |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gnosis Pay | Self-custody Safe | Visa | 1-5% GNO | No |
| MetaMask Card | Delegation | Mastercard | 1-3% mUSD | Yes (no VT) |
| COCA | Self-custody MPC | Visa | 0-1% | No |
| Crypto.com | Custodial | Visa | 1-8% CRO | Yes |
| KAST | Custodial | Mastercard | 1% USDC | Yes |
For Europeans wanting maximum self-custody, Gnosis Pay is the strongest pick. For US users, MetaMask Card is the closest equivalent (self-custody via delegation on Linea/Base/Solana/Monad, Mastercard network, available in the US except Vermont). For multi-chain stablecoin holders without strong custody preference, COCA offers a similar self-custody model with broader chain support.
Who Should Get Gnosis Pay
Get Gnosis Pay if: you live in the EEA, UK, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, or Colombia and you want a Visa debit card that genuinely doesn't custody your funds. The GNO cashback is a bonus if you're already a Gnosis Chain user or willing to hold GNO long-term. The free EUR IBAN via Monerium turns the card into a usable everyday banking layer.
Skip Gnosis Pay if: you live in the US (not available), you want USDC/USDT-denominated cashback (you'll get GNO instead), or you don't want the complexity of operating a Safe smart account. Alternatives: MetaMask Card for US/global self-custody, KAST for low-friction USDC spending, COCA for multi-chain stablecoins with built-in yield.
Final Verdict: 86% Kardd Score
Gnosis Pay scores 86% in our independent rating. The product delivers what almost no other crypto card delivers: actual self-custody until the moment of payment. The 0% fees and 5% cashback ceiling make it competitive on economics. The cons (US unavailability, GNO price exposure, complexity) are real but acceptable trade-offs for the self-custody architecture.
If you're in a supported region and prioritize sovereignty over your funds, Gnosis Pay is the strongest pick on the market. It's also a useful reference design for what crypto cards should look like — we expect more issuers to copy this architecture over the next 18 months.
